Frequently asked questions

Product

How long does the gel stay cold once it's out of the freezer?

Icebrim's gel core is formulated to hold a comfortable cooling temperature for significantly longer than typical cooling caps, which often warm up within 10–15 minutes. Because sessions are recommended at 15–20 minutes, one full freeze should comfortably cover a session. For back-to-back use throughout the day, our Rotation Twin Pack means a second cap is always ready.

Does the cap block out light for sensitivity to brightness?

Yes. The cap uses a contoured nose opening and a dense, light-absorbing fabric across the eye area, designed to block ambient light fully — helpful for anyone who finds bright light unbearable during a migraine or tension headache.

Is the cap suitable for menopause hot flushes and night sweats?

Many of our customers use it exactly for this. The cooling sensation offers quick, soothing comfort when a hot flush strikes, and a short session before bed can help you settle down after a night sweat. It's a comfort accessory rather than a treatment for menopause itself, but it's designed with exactly this kind of everyday relief in mind.

Is this available on NHS prescription?

No — Icebrim is a comfort and self-care accessory rather than a prescribed medical device, so it isn't available through NHS prescription. You can order directly through our website for UK delivery.

What's your returns policy?

You can return an unused, unopened cap within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Using your cap

Can I wear the Cooling Relief Cap overnight while sleeping?

We don't recommend sleeping in the cap while it's cold. Continuous cold contact should be limited to around 20 minutes so you stay aware of how your skin is responding — and while asleep, you won't notice early warning signs like numbness. If you want light-blocking comfort overnight, an unchilled sleep mask is the safer choice. You can absolutely use the cap for a focused 15–20 minute session before bed as part of a wind-down routine.

How do I wash and look after my cap?

Never machine wash, hand-submerge, bleach, iron, or dry clean your cap — this can damage the internal gel and the stretch of the fabric. Instead, wipe the outer fabric with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, then let it air-dry completely flat. Store it in its protective bag when not in use, which also keeps the gel from picking up any moisture or odours from the freezer.

Is it okay to wear makeup, creams, or skincare products under the cap?

It's best to apply the cap to clean skin, free from creams, oils, or cosmetics. These products can be held against the skin under continuous compression, which may cause irritation, and some can degrade the stretch fabric over time.

Can I heat the cap up for warm therapy instead of cold?

Yes. Remove the cap from its storage bag first — never microwave it inside the bag, and never heat it while it's frozen. Heat in a microwave-safe environment for 20 seconds on medium power, then carefully test the temperature on your inner wrist. If you need more warmth, reheat in short 10-second bursts, without exceeding 60 seconds of total heating time. Wear the warmed cap for 10–15 minutes to help ease tight muscles in the head, temples, or neck.

Medical & safety

When should I speak to my GP instead of relying on the cap?

The cap is a comfort and self-care accessory, not a treatment for underlying medical conditions. Speak to your GP if your headache pattern changes suddenly, your attacks become more frequent or severe, or you find yourself needing painkillers more than two days a week. If you have Raynaud's phenomenon, poor circulation, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease, check with a healthcare professional before using temperature-based products.
